Until then, we are inviting you to join our virtual Easter table and enjoy a very traditional and modest Istrian cake that is being baked for decades in Istrian households for Easter. Give it a try and allow its beautiful scent to bring you back to us, at least for a moment.
Ingredients:
• 1000 g of flour
• 6 egg yolks
• 100 ml of milk
• 200 g of sugar
• 10 g of pork lard
• 5 g of butter
• 8 g of yeast
• Lemon rind
• Pinch of salt
• Vanilla sugar
Preparation:
Mix yolks with sugar and vanilla sugar in a pot placed over hot water. Add flour and activated yeast, lard, melted butter, lemon rind, and salt. Make a smooth dough, let it double in size.
Shape the dough into several pieces. Work each piece into a sausage shape, and from that, work it into a ring-like shape and let it rise for 30 minutes. Bake in a pre-heated oven for 12-15 minutes at 200 degrees Celsius.
While still hot, dip into milk and frost with sugar.
